Organizational Context
IOM, a UN Related Organization, is the leading agency in migration. This internship is within the Migration Health Division (MHD) of the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (DMPI), supporting the Health Assessment Programme (HAP). The role contributes to IOM's global provision of migration health services, specifically assisting in health assessments under the supervision of the Senior Health Operations & Compliance Officer and Programme Officer.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to significantly contribute to the Migration Health Division's Health Assessment Programme (HAP), a cornerstone of IOM's global migration health services. HAP provides a comprehensive array of medical services, including screening, diagnostics, treatment, preventive measures, and health-related travel assistance, to migrants pursuing resettlement, international employment, education, or temporary/permanent visas. The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the programme's operational efficiency and effectiveness. This involves supporting critical functions such as knowledge management, developing and disseminating vital information, ensuring the timely distribution and tracking of program resources, and compiling essential data for reporting and strategic planning. Furthermore, the intern will assist in quality assurance initiatives, coordinate training activities, and provide essential logistical and administrative support for meetings and events. This role directly contributes to facilitating humane and orderly migration by ensuring the robust and well-supported delivery of health assessments worldwide.
Responsibilities
The Intern will undertake several key duties to support the Health Assessment Programme. A primary responsibility involves contributing to knowledge management initiatives by actively supporting the updating and maintenance of the Global HAP SharePoint, thereby facilitating seamless access to up-to-date resources, guidance documents, and best practices for programme staff worldwide. The intern will also assist the team in developing comprehensive information sheets for both internal and external dissemination, which includes gathering necessary inputs and relevant information from various colleagues. Support will be provided for the timely distribution of essential holograms to Country Offices, alongside tracking inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted programme implementation as required. Furthermore, the role entails assisting with the compilation and coordination of HAP-related inputs for meeting preparation and reporting, which includes collecting pertinent data, updates, and drafting necessary materials. The intern will also support quality initiatives within HAP, assisting with the coordination and delivery of webinars and training activities by performing relevant tasks. Finally, comprehensive logistical and administrative support will be provided for other meetings and events, covering tasks such as preparing invitations, managing participant lists, booking meeting rooms (both in-person and virtual), developing meeting summaries, and circulating materials efficiently.
Work Experience
Experience working on health and migration issues is advantageous, with experience in health data being desirable. Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely, including proven skills in drafting summary documents, editing reports, project documents, and proposals, is also desirable. Proficiency in office software packages (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) is required.
