Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate pathways for regular migration. The Internship Programme attracts students and graduates interested in migration-related fields, requiring them to be between 20-36 years old with less than two years of experience. This role sits within the Senegal mission, reporting to the Regional Supply Chain Officer.
Job Purpose
The Intern - Supply Chain will support the management of resources within the Senegal mission, adhering to IOM policies and standards. This internship aims to provide valuable experience in supply chain operations, procurement, and asset management within an international humanitarian context. The intern will gain practical skills in procurement processes, compliance, market analysis, and coordination. This role contributes to the efficient functioning of IOM's operations by ensuring timely procurement and delivery of goods and services, supporting logistical activities, and maintaining accurate records. The position offers a learning opportunity to understand IOM's operational framework and contribute to its mission of assisting governments and migrants.
Responsibilities
The Intern - Supply Chain will support procurement activities by consolidating and verifying requisition forms, assisting in the preparation of tender documents, and supporting bid analysis. Responsibilities include monitoring open requisitions, coordinating timely delivery of goods and services, and assisting with vendor invoice review and payment requests. The intern will help maintain procurement records, participate in market surveys to identify new suppliers, and track contractual agreements. Additionally, support will be provided to fleet operations, including vehicle schedules and logbook monitoring, as well as supply chain tasks related to property, asset management, warehousing, and transportation. The role also involves learning about IOM procedures and contributing to organizational strategies.
Work Experience
Experience in using standard office software packages (MS Word, Excel) is required. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in delivering high-quality work within set deadlines, showcasing strong time management and prioritization skills.
Skills
Analytical skills, knowledge of supply chain rules and regulations, and great attention to detail are required. Proficiency in spreadsheet and data analysis is also noted.
