Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with governments and partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate regular migration pathways. The organization fosters an inclusive and supportive workplace. This internship is within the Regional Human Resources Unit, which handles recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and other HR functions, providing guidance on regional HR matters.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration-related fields to support the IOM's Regional Human Resources Unit. The intern will assist with administrative processes under the supervision of the Regional Human Resources Business Partner and the Deputy Regional Director for Management. The role contributes to the smooth functioning of HR operations, including recruitment, personnel file management, and onboarding platform support. It offers a valuable learning opportunity to gain practical experience in regional human resources functions within an international organization, enhancing skills in recruitment, document management, and event coordination.
Responsibilities
Provide clerical assistance for HR processes and activities. Maintain organized and up-to-date personnel files and documentation. Support the development and improvement of the Regional Office's onboarding platform by gathering materials and updating content. Assist in recruitment processes, including circulating vacancies, coordinating interviews, preparing materials, conducting reference checks, and communicating with candidates. Support the organization of meetings, training, and HR events through logistical arrangements, correspondence, and document preparation. Perform other assigned duties. Learning objectives include building knowledge of regional HR functions, strengthening recruitment skills, improving organizational and document management, and developing coordination and event support capabilities.
Work Experience
Experience in maintaining and updating databases is considered an asset. Experience in preparing reports and meeting minutes is also an asset. Familiarity with SharePoint is advantageous.
Skills
Discreet, detail-oriented, client-focused, patient, and eager to learn. Proficient in computer use, particularly with database tools and Excel. Possesses strong organizational skills. Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment. Demonstrates ability to produce accurate and concise work within deadlines. Capable of multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and working independently.
