Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration and protection. The intern will support the Protection Regional Thematic Unit (PXD RTU) in providing thematic expertise and resource mobilization support to Country Offices. Key functions include monitoring and analyzing regional protection trends, assisting in the development and endorsement of regional thematic projects, and supporting capacity-building initiatives. The role involves collaborating with various units to ensure cohesive and quality evidence-based programming, contributing to IOM's strategic plan by promoting policy, data, and research. The intern will gain practical experience in an international organization, working on protection-related issues within the UN system and contributing to IOM's mission of saving lives and protecting people on the move.
Responsibilities
The Intern - Protection will support the Regional Thematic Specialist – Protection (PXD RTS) in various capacities. This includes assisting with capacity building, training, monitoring, evaluation, and technical support to Country Offices on protection-related themes. The intern will help review, endorse, and track project proposals and reports from Country Offices. Responsibilities also involve identifying emerging issues, following thematic developments, and contributing to policy and report development. The intern will serve as a resource person for Country Offices, providing insights on standards, guidelines, and best practices. Additionally, they will support the development of regional/multi-country projects, draft guidance notes and tools, and prepare internal reports and presentations. The role includes contributing to knowledge management processes and potentially coordinating PXD activities in the absence of the PXD RTS, as well as participating in relevant conferences and meetings.
Work Experience
A demonstrated interest in protection is required. Experience working with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, the private sector, and NGOs is considered an advantage. Interns should have less than two years of relevant working experience.

Demonstrated writing and analytical skills. Ability to take responsibility, manage constructive criticism, and promote continuous learning. Strong listening and clear communication skills, adapting delivery to the audience. Capacity to plan work, anticipate risks, and set goals. Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, learning, project development, and reporting. Ability to contribute to a collegial team environment, incorporating gender perspectives. Awareness of relevant technological solutions.
