Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration data and research. The intern will support the IOM Regional Data Hub (RDH) in Vienna by contributing to data analysis, research initiatives, and the production of analytical outputs for the Europe and Central Asia region. The role involves assisting with data collection, cleaning, analysis, and the drafting of reports and briefs. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in migration data management, research methodologies, and international cooperation within the UN system, enhancing the intern's understanding of IOM's work and developing key professional skills.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct literature reviews and identify relevant data sources on migration. Responsibilities include supporting data collection, cleaning, management, and analysis for the Regional Data Hub and IOM country offices. The role involves contributing to research on migration trends, assisting in drafting analytical outputs such as reports and briefs, and supporting quality assurance of country-level products. The intern will also collaborate with regional teams and country offices on data requests, maintain knowledge management systems, and provide administrative support for RDH functions. Learning objectives focus on building knowledge of migration data, strengthening data management and analysis skills, improving research writing, and developing coordination and operational support capabilities.
Work Experience
Experience in data cleaning, analysis, and reporting from complex systems is required. Professional or academic experience combining qualitative and quantitative research methods is also necessary. Experience in migration, international development, or humanitarian contexts is highly desirable, as is an understanding of the migratory context in Europe and Central Asia. Prior experience in UN or international development organizations is an asset.
Skills
Excellent research and analytical skills with attention to detail are required. Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis using Excel is necessary. Knowledge of other analytical software (SPSS, R, Python, Power BI, Tableau) and GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS Pro) is desirable. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment is essential.
