Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. IOM Nepal leads migration development, supporting the Government of Nepal through diverse initiatives and collaborating with various stakeholders. The organization upholds its mandate by offering migration management services in areas such as humanitarian assistance, movement support, and migration and development, contributing to the 2030 Agenda.
Job Purpose
The Intern - Policy & Research role supports IOM Nepal's efforts in partnership development, resource mobilization, and project monitoring and evaluation. The intern will work closely with the Project Support Officer and project staff to contribute to research, coordination, and reporting tasks. This position facilitates donor engagement and supports activities for effective project implementation and coordination. Additionally, the intern will assist with daily tasks involving engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including the UN, and support the expansion of IOM’s mandate within Nepal's broader development strategies, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on migration-related themes, synthesizing findings for evidence-based decision-making and policy development. Assist in all project phases, from initiation to implementation, including designing project ideas, developing work plans, and supporting monitoring and evaluation strategies. Develop communication materials such as reports and presentations, and support documentation of resource mobilization efforts and project outcomes. Provide administrative support, including data entry, analysis, minute-taking, and document management, to ensure efficient office operations. Engage in learning opportunities, workshops, and seminars to enhance professional skills and understanding of migration issues. Support the maintenance and strengthening of relations with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Nepal. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A demonstrated academic background in fields such as international relations, public policy, development studies, or migration-related areas is required. Demonstrated research and analytical skills, with good drafting and communication abilities, are essential. An interest in migration issues, including an understanding of the Global Compact for Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration (GCM) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is necessary. Familiarity with IOM's mandate and strategic priorities is desirable.
