Migration Health Nurse

This role is situated within the IOM Sub-office in Zarzis, Tunisia, supporting critical healthcare needs for migrants.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for bridging urgent service gaps in migrant healthcare, thereby protecting vulnerable populations and upholding public health priorities until national systems are sufficiently equipped. The incumbent will provide essential nursing assistance, conduct medical examinations, support disease management, and ensure proper documentation and referrals. By delivering direct care and information, the position contributes to the overall well-being of migrants and supports IOM's mandate to provide humane and orderly migration services. The role operates under the direct supervision of the migration health physician, ensuring adherence to IOM's health program standards.
Responsibilities
Provide general nursing assistance including vital signs checks, specimen collection, and support for medical examinations. Administer Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) for TB management and support infection prevention and control mechanisms. Assist with pre-departure procedures, medical movements, and documentation. Liaise with laboratories for timely result transmission. Offer support and information to migrants regarding health assessments, treatments, and referrals to health facilities. Aid in comprehensive history taking, biodata collection, and ID verification for health assessments. Maintain accurate records, upload medical reports to databases, and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Assist in medical emergency and chronic case management, arrange specialist consultations, and perform medical escort duties when required. Support inventory management of medical drugs and supplies.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience for Bachelor's degree holders, or four years for Diploma holders. Experience in Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, laboratory testing, or public health is advantageous. Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds is also a plus. Proficiency in clinical nursing and knowledge of preventive care principles are necessary.
