Consultant Type B - Migration Health Nurse

This role contributes to a program focused on enhancing the public health system's response to health challenges and migration in Tunisia, specifically within the Zarzis area.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role is integral to improving the sustainability of public health responses to migration challenges in Tunisia, with a focus on Zarzis. The incumbent will provide direct medical assistance to migrants accessing IOM services, support medical physicians, and manage patient records. Key contributions include coordinating medical referrals, advocating for special health needs, and ensuring the quality of health services provided to vulnerable migrant populations. The role also involves monitoring health assessments, addressing psychosocial needs, and facilitating pre-departure medical checks for voluntary returnees, ensuring their fitness to travel and coordinating necessary medical escorts.
Responsibilities
Provide direct medical assistance and support to medical physicians for migrant beneficiaries. Create and maintain accurate medical records, ensuring proper archiving. Coordinate medical referrals with hospitals and follow up on patient treatment progress. Offer support for medical services in governmental facilities when requested. Identify and advocate for migrants' special health needs, liaising with health partners to facilitate service provision. Contribute to strengthening quality health service mechanisms and identifying protection concerns for vulnerable groups. Conduct health needs assessments and maintain monitoring systems, including emergency response. Highlight and report psychosocial and protection needs to caseworkers. Monitor pre-departure medical checks for AVRR cases and coordinate related medical procedures, including escorts. Conduct health promotion activities for migrant and host communities. Liaise with community leaders and health workers to understand migrant health concerns. Coordinate the procurement and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies. Review services from a gender perspective and recommend improvements. Assist the medical team in field medical services and convoys. Submit case reports, monthly progress reports, and statistical reports as required. Report regularly to the migrant medical physician and respond to emergency calls.
Work Experience
Requires proven experience in community outreach and dialogue, along with practical monitoring and evaluation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Internet, PowerPoint, Email) is essential. Experience working in emergency situations and with emergency cases is also required.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of the humanitarian context of medical assistance for diverse migrant populations. Fluency in French and Arabic is required; working knowledge of English is desirable.
