Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization, promotes humane and orderly migration. IOM operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters) in Greece, providing essential services including accommodation, basic needs, legal and psychosocial support, and educational programs. This role is situated within the K.F.A.A. Patra project, under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Shelter Coordinator.
Job Purpose
The Caregiver role is crucial for the daily operations of the IOM Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (UMC) in Patra, Greece. The purpose is to provide direct assistance, care, and essential services to UMC residing in the shelter. This involves ensuring their well-being, safety, and adherence to daily routines and programs. The role contributes to creating a supportive and stable environment for vulnerable children, facilitating their access to necessary services, and promoting their integration and development within the framework of the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027". The Caregiver will work under the direct supervision of the Shelter Coordinator.
Responsibilities
The Caregiver will assist in the daily operations of the accommodation center, ensuring the implementation of individual daily programs for beneficiaries and escorting them to services as needed. Responsibilities include guiding beneficiaries in personal hygiene, cleanliness, and home economy. The role involves monitoring and managing the inventory of essential materials like hygiene items and clothing, ensuring timely replenishment and proper storage. The Caregiver will oversee the maintenance of facilities, educate minors on respecting and using equipment, and maintain records of minor and visitor entries. Crucially, the role requires handling crisis and emergency situations, promptly notifying relevant staff, and coordinating with local authorities to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff on 24-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Experience
Experience or training in child protection, unaccompanied minor care, vulnerability management, or refugee integration is required. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants, especially children, is essential. Previous experience in a similar role, working with diverse populations in a multicultural environment, and a willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends, are preferred. A valid driver's license with at least five years of experience is an asset.
