Job Purpose
The Driver plays a crucial role in supporting IOM's Movement Operations, a fundamental pillar of the organization's mandate. This position ensures the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods, contributing directly to the delivery of IOM's services to migrants and refugees. The Driver is responsible for maintaining assigned vehicles, ensuring their roadworthiness and proper upkeep, and adhering to all driving regulations and organizational policies. This role is essential for facilitating the organized movement of individuals requiring international migration assistance, thereby supporting IOM's mission to promote humane and orderly migration.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for operating assigned IOM vehicles safely and efficiently. This includes managing the daily maintenance of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness, performing checks on essential components, and arranging for minor repairs and cleaning. The Driver must ensure vehicles adhere to scheduled service intervals and maintain an accurate record of spare parts, conducting monthly inventories. They are tasked with identifying the most direct and safe routes and ensuring vehicle use is strictly for authorized business. Maintaining a daily log sheet and preparing monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption is required. The role also involves ensuring the confidentiality of discussions, assessing and mitigating potential security threats around the vehicle, and assisting with airport pickups, including immigration and customs formalities. Additionally, the Driver will collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items, and may provide basic clerical support.
Work Experience
Required experience includes knowledge of driving rules and regulations, experience operating various makes and models of vehicles, and proficiency in performing minor vehicle repairs. Familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications is also necessary.
