Job Purpose
The Communications Assistant will provide essential support to the communication, visibility, and information management functions of IOM Mozambique. This role is crucial for ensuring effective internal and external information dissemination regarding IOM's activities and achievements. The assistant will contribute to developing communication materials, promoting the organization's work in alignment with donor visibility requirements and IOM's communication standards, and maintaining smooth information flows. This position directly supports the overall mission of IOM in Mozambique by enhancing its public presence and ensuring its impactful programs are effectively communicated to relevant stakeholders and the general public.
Responsibilities
The Communications Assistant will be responsible for collecting and organizing media and social media content, and assisting with basic updates to the Country Office's social media platforms. This includes formatting communication materials such as website articles, press releases, and social media posts. The role involves drafting and formatting simple documents like information sheets and presentation slides, and assisting program teams in formatting visibility materials according to donor guidelines. Additionally, the assistant will handle incoming media and communication requests, monitor media and social media for references to IOM, compile basic summaries, and maintain internal communication channels. Responding to general information requests and maintaining records are also key duties.
Work Experience
The role requires demonstrated initial working experience or an internship in communications, project management support, reporting, or monitoring. Experience in organizing and supporting trainings, working directly with migrants, or in the private sector is considered an asset. Previous work experience or an internship in migrant assistance, migrant integration, or journalism is also beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in communications, project management support, reporting, and monitoring is essential. Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming is required. The ability to write clear correspondence and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in English and Portuguese is a key skill for this position.
