Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. IOM Botswana operates across various thematic areas, including Migration Governance, Counter-Trafficking, Migration and Health, Labour Mobility, Climate Change and Human Mobility, Border Management, and Migration Data. The Programme Support Unit (PSU) focuses on expanding IOM's project portfolio and partnerships.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Project Support Unit (PSU) aims to support IOM Botswana in expanding its project portfolio across key thematic areas. The intern will contribute to project research, partnership development, design, and resource mobilization, with a focus on private sector engagement and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in project development and implementation within an international organization, contributing to impactful projects aligned with national and international priorities, particularly in the area of Climate Change and Human Mobility.
Responsibilities
Assist in project development by conducting research, drafting concept notes, and preparing proposals. Support stakeholder mapping and engagement, identifying potential partners and maintaining databases. Contribute to resource mobilization by preparing briefing notes and donor reports. Aid in project monitoring and evaluation by collecting and analyzing data. Provide administrative support for project meetings, including agendas and minutes. Assist in organizing training and capacity-building initiatives. Draft advocacy and communication materials to highlight project impact. Maintain an organized repository of project documents and best practices. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Demonstrated interest or experience in research, policy analysis, or project implementation related to climate change, migration, or disaster risk reduction is required. Experience in event coordination or stakeholder engagement is considered a plus.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with research methodologies, data analysis, and statistical tools is advantageous. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
