Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. The Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Unit in IOM Egypt enhances governmental capacity in border management through capacity building, equipment provision, and policy support. This role supports the IBG Unit's initiatives in Egypt.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration and border governance. The intern will provide technical and administrative support to the IBG Unit in Egypt, contributing to capacity building for border management authorities. The role supports initiatives in maritime security, border control, and integrated border management, while also assisting in the strategic development and implementation of human rights and protection approaches for migrants within the country. This position offers valuable learning opportunities in immigration and border governance, international cooperation, and migration programming within a multicultural UN environment.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist with IBG activities, including implementing assessments, capacity building, and technical assistance. This involves preparing for and delivering training sessions. Responsibilities include drafting meeting minutes, reports, and other program-related documents, and liaising with IOM staff on administrative, financial, logistical, and operational matters. The intern will also contribute to standardizing program templates and performing other assigned duties. Learning objectives focus on building knowledge in immigration and border governance, strengthening coordination and organizational skills, improving communication and reporting, and developing an understanding of international cooperation and migration programming.
Work Experience
Demonstrated experience in note-taking and drafting accurate meeting minutes is required. Proven experience in organizing workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building activities is also necessary. Experience in preparing official correspondence and drafting Terms of Reference, concept notes, and analytical or technical reports is expected.
Skills
Key skills include strong written and verbal communication, organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, draft clearly and concisely, and interact effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds is essential. Basic knowledge of social media analytics and reporting, proficiency in social media management tools, and creative thinking for content generation are also noted.
