Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Jordan, established in 1990, supports the government in fulfilling commitments towards migrants, refugees, and host communities. It implements diverse programming in public health, refugee assistance, and more, working with UN and NGO partners. This internship supports the Public Health Unit within IOM Jordan’s Country Programme.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to attract talented students and graduates interested in migration and public health. The role supports the implementation and coordination of public health activities within IOM Jordan's Country Programme. The intern will assist in research, data collection, analysis, and stakeholder engagement to contribute to project development, reporting, and coordination. This position offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in public health programming within an international migration context, enhancing research, analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct desk research on migration health, public health, and humanitarian issues, reviewing reports and policies. Responsibilities include collecting, organizing, and summarizing information on migrant health systems and public health interventions. The role involves assisting in the preparation of programme documents, donor reports, and presentations. The intern will support stakeholder mapping and coordination with government bodies, UN agencies, and NGOs. Additionally, they will assist in organizing and following up on trainings, workshops, and meetings, providing administrative and logistical support to the Public Health team.
Work Experience
Previous academic, volunteer, or internship experience in public health, migration, or humanitarian assistance is advantageous. Experience in research support, report drafting, and event organization is desirable. Experience with UN agencies, international organizations, or NGOs is considered an asset.
Skills
Key skills include an interest in migration health and public health issues, strong research, analytical, and organizational abilities, and effective drafting and communication skills. The ability to work in diverse environments and coordinate with stakeholders is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
