Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related agency, leads in migration. This Project Associate (Outreach) role operates within the AVRR project, under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, Chief of Mission for Italy and Malta, and direct supervision of the Officer in Charge in Rome. The role supports IOM's mandate to promote humane and orderly migration.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate (Outreach) serves to ensure that migrants in Malta, who are unwilling or unable to remain, have comprehensive access to the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) scheme. The core purpose is to actively engage with migrant communities, both in reception centers and within the broader community, as well as with IOM's partners and stakeholders, to disseminate vital information about AVRR services. This role is instrumental in supporting the operational implementation of the AVRR project, specifically by organizing and conducting outreach activities, preparing informational materials, and assisting with communication and visibility efforts. Furthermore, the position contributes significantly to identifying vulnerable AVRR applicants and coordinating with relevant teams to facilitate their safe and dignified return and reintegration, thereby upholding IOM's commitment to humane and orderly migration and supporting individuals through critical transitions.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate (Outreach) is responsible for assisting in the comprehensive implementation of the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) project, adhering to IOM policies and donor requirements. This primarily involves extensive outreach and information dissemination activities to ensure migrants in Malta are aware of and can access AVRR services. Key duties include organizing and conducting outreach sessions within closed and open reception centers, as well as in the broader community, and engaging with IOM's network of partners and stakeholders. The role also entails preparing, translating, and distributing essential information materials and tools, alongside supporting communication and visibility initiatives, including sharing content on social media platforms. Furthermore, the Associate identifies practical strategies for disseminating information effectively among migrant communities, diplomatic missions, and non-governmental organizations. A critical responsibility involves identifying vulnerable AVRR applicants and collaborating closely with operations assistants and caseworkers to facilitate tailored return and reintegration arrangements, especially for individuals with specific health-related needs, in coordination with relevant IOM missions. The position also provides crucial support in the preparation of the project's narrative and financial reports.
Work Experience
Required experience includes relevant work in migrants' assistance and in the protection of vulnerable persons. Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities, international institutions, and NGOs is considered an asset, as is experience in communication and outreach.
Skills
Knowledge of migration-related areas dealt with by the Organization. Experience in international organizations and/or in the field of migration. Familiarity with the migration context in Malta and with movement-related operations is considered an asset.
