Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with governments and partners to save lives, protect people on the move, and facilitate regular migration pathways. This role supports the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Division, specifically in legal identity and document verification, within IOM's country office in Finland.
Job Purpose
This role is accountable for supporting and assisting the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Division, with a particular focus on legal identity and document verification, within the IOM country office in Finland. The position operates under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator. Collaboration with relevant units at Headquarters, the Regional Office, and other IOM missions is expected. The role contributes to the effective implementation and monitoring of project activities related to border governance and legal identity, ensuring alignment with IOM's mandate and objectives in promoting orderly migration and supporting migrants.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. This involves compiling, analyzing, and presenting project data, monitoring budget implementation, and acting as a focal point for administrative coordination. The role requires drafting status reports, correspondence, and project documentation, as well as organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Responsibilities also extend to responding to information requests, maintaining project files, and liaising with diverse stakeholders including local authorities, partners, and UN agencies. Monitoring implementing partners, contributing to SOPs and concept papers, and providing guidance or supervision to other staff members are also integral parts of the role.
Work Experience
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and victims of trafficking is essential. Prior work in international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting, along with project development and reporting experience, is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in migration-related subject areas (IBG, Protection, AVRR, resettlement, movement management). Knowledge of UN and donor programming, financial rules, and project cycle management. Strong writing, analytical, and coordination skills. Advanced computer literacy. Ability to manage tasks under pressure. Familiarity with MEL frameworks and protection mainstreaming principles. Supervisory and guidance skills are also noted.
