Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya has been active since 2006, supporting the government and communities through humanitarian, stabilization, and migration management initiatives. The organization focuses on direct assistance and protection for migrants, IDPs, returnees, and host communities, while enhancing national capacities in migration governance, border management, and psychosocial support. This role operates under the Senior Protection Coordinator and National Protection Officer (VHR).
Job Purpose
The Protection Associate (Assessments and Referrals) plays a crucial role in implementing pre-departure activities for migrants, ensuring their information is collected and processed efficiently and in line with IOM procedures. This facilitates their subsequent return and reintegration processes. The role involves screening, categorizing, and documenting cases, as well as referring individuals to appropriate IOM units or external partners for specialized assistance. By maintaining accurate records and adhering to protection principles, the associate contributes to the effective delivery of IOM's humanitarian and migration management services in Libya, ultimately supporting the organization's mission to promote humane and orderly migration and assist vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The Protection Associate is responsible for receiving and processing referrals from various sources, conducting screening activities, and accurately categorizing cases for Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) or Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants (AVM). This includes inputting and updating case information in MiMOSA with supporting documentation, verifying eligibility for single-headed families, and referring cases promptly to relevant IOM units or external partners for specialized assistance. The role involves maintaining up-to-date case records, supporting the handover of travel-ready cases, and conducting field missions as required. Additionally, the associate will participate in joint information sessions, adhere to nationality-specific information-sharing requirements, and support quality checks on case documentation and system entries. Reporting on case quality indicators and handling no-show cases are also key duties, alongside performing other assigned tasks within the Migrant Protection Unit.
Work Experience
Previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is advantageous. Demonstrated accuracy in data handling and reporting is required, along with strong computer skills.
