This role, the Field Security Associate, operates within IOM South Sudan. Job Purpose
The Field Security Associate plays a vital role in supporting the overall security framework for IOM operations in South Sudan. Under the guidance of the Field Security Officer, this position is instrumental in safeguarding IOM personnel, premises, and assets, thereby enabling the organization to effectively deliver its humanitarian and migration mandates. The purpose is to ensure a secure operating environment through proactive security management, including intelligence gathering, risk assessment, and the development and implementation of comprehensive security plans and standard operating procedures. This role contributes significantly to staff safety and operational continuity by fostering compliance with security protocols, facilitating effective communication systems, and providing essential security training and briefings. By maintaining strong liaison with UN and host government security agencies, the Associate helps to ensure that IOM's field activities are conducted with the highest possible level of security awareness and preparedness, directly supporting the mission's objectives in a complex operational context.
Responsibilities
The Field Security Associate supports the Field Security Officer in maintaining a secure operational environment. Key responsibilities include fostering strong relationships with UN, host government, and local security authorities to gather up-to-date security intelligence. The role involves assisting in the collection, updating, and dissemination of security information, and supporting the development and implementation of comprehensive security plans, including contingency, emergency response, and Standard Operating Procedures, while providing inputs for Business Continuity Plans. Furthermore, the Associate helps ensure staff compliance with safety and security protocols, mandatory training, and clearance requirements. This position supports security surveys of IOM offices and the effective management of the Country Office Warden system, including maintaining updated staff lists and ensuring the operability of communication systems like SCAAN. The Associate is also responsible for ensuring all safety and security communication equipment is functional and inventoried, and assists in reporting security incidents and preparing relevant security reports. Additionally, the role involves supporting the organization and delivery of security awareness training, orientation for new personnel, and maintaining an orderly filing system for confidential security documents and contact databases.
Work Experience
Desirable experience includes professional experience in humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors, particularly in providing security coordination and administrative support for an international organization. Experience with radio communications and successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course are also desirable.
Skills
Ability to collaborate with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders. Effective teamwork with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening.
