Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. The Office of Staff Security (OSS) manages security policy and provides operational support to IOM programs, aiming to mitigate security risks. This role, under the Field Security Officer (FSO) in South Sudan, provides specialized security support to IOM activities and enhances security awareness.
Job Purpose
This role is designed to provide specialized support to IOM's activities in South Sudan, contributing to the effective implementation of programs by managing security risks. The Senior Field Security Associate will assist the Field Security Officer (FSO) in all aspects of security risk management, including developing and implementing security plans, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with security measures. A key aspect of the role is to support the FSO in establishing and maintaining an appropriate level of security awareness among IOM personnel, thereby safeguarding staff, assets, and operations. The position is crucial for ensuring a secure operational environment that allows IOM to effectively deliver its mandate in a challenging context.
Responsibilities
The Senior Field Security Associate will assist in maintaining effective working relationships with UN DSS, host government security agencies, and local authorities to gather relevant security information. Responsibilities include collecting, verifying, and communicating security situation updates, and contributing to the development and implementation of country-specific security plans, contingency plans, and SOPs. The role involves supporting Security Risk Management (SRM) processes, conducting security evaluations, and advising on Residential Security Measures (RSM). Additionally, the associate will manage the Warden system, ensure timely dissemination of security information, assist in reporting security incidents, and support security awareness training and orientations for personnel. The position also entails maintaining security files, liaising with commercial security providers, and assisting in incident investigations.
Work Experience
Relevant professional experience in humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors is desirable. Experience in security programs, risk assessments, analysis, operational security risk management, investigations, or physical security is also preferred. Familiarity with radio communications and successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course are considered advantageous.
Skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders. Capacity to work productively with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and effective responsiveness.
