Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the effective execution of IOM's Movement Operations, a fundamental pillar of the organization's mandate since its inception. The Movement Operations Associate is responsible for undertaking various activities related to the organized movement of persons requiring international migration assistance. This involves coordinating travel arrangements, ensuring compliance with established procedures and agreements with governments and partners, and managing all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM's auspices. The position directly contributes to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration and providing essential services to people on the move.
Responsibilities
The Movement Operations Associate is responsible for coordinating and booking travel for individuals, ensuring timely processing in accordance with IOM's Handbook of Tariffs and Standard Operating Procedures. This includes managing Advance Booking Notifications, updates, cancellations, and departure notifications. The role involves compiling and analyzing descriptive statistics using I-GATOR for cost tracking and preparing travel loan paperwork. Creating and maintaining movement data files for accountability is essential. The associate will identify and assign escorts for vulnerable individuals, process exit permission and travel documents, and conduct identity and document verification. Pre-departure counseling on travel procedures and special needs, and identifying beneficiary vulnerabilities are key duties. The role requires maintaining confidentiality, upholding protection mainstreaming standards, and demonstrating an understanding of IOM's Standards of Conduct and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations, transportation-related fields, or management is strongly preferred. Experience within programs that include movement operations, particularly resettlement programs, is beneficial. Experience in guiding junior staff and communicating with beneficiaries is also desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and organizational abilities. Self-motivation, objectivity, initiative, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Team leadership skills.
