Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related organization and the leading UN agency in migration. It collaborates closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The role of Chauffeur/Driver operates under the general supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Assistant Procurement and Logistics Officer in Conakry.

Job Purpose

The Chauffeur/Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and materials within Guinea. This role is crucial for facilitating the operational activities of the IOM office in Conakry, supporting project implementation, and ensuring timely attendance at official meetings and appointments. By maintaining vehicles, adhering to traffic laws, and providing reliable transport services, the Chauffeur/Driver directly contributes to the smooth functioning of the organization and its mission to promote human and orderly migration. The position requires a high degree of responsibility in vehicle management, safety, and punctuality.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include driving personnel for project activities and office-related travel, including meetings and missions, and facilitating timely arrivals at official appointments. The Chauffeur/Driver must operate vehicles safely, adhering to all current security standards and traffic regulations. Daily tasks involve maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, recording mileage, and ensuring vehicles are parked appropriately. Regular vehicle cleaning and daily checks of operational status (oil, water, brakes, tires) are essential. The role also includes monitoring technical inspection and periodic maintenance dates, performing minor repairs, and promptly reporting any necessary vehicle maintenance to the supervisor. Ensuring vehicle insurance validity and initiating renewal processes at least one month prior to expiration is required. The Chauffeur/Driver is accountable for vehicle security and managing accident procedures according to regulations, demonstrating safe and preventive driving practices.

Work Experience

A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a chauffeur is required. Candidates should possess knowledge of driving rules and regulations, experience driving various vehicle makes and models, and basic vehicle repair skills. Familiarity with radio, email, and telephone communication is also beneficial.
