Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Cameroon seeks a Driver in Bertoua. Reporting to the Senior Supply Chain Assistant and Chief of Mission, this role is crucial for managing resource management functions and ensuring efficient transportation within the organization's operations.
Job Purpose
The Driver's primary purpose is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of IOM vehicles. This involves managing daily vehicle maintenance to guarantee roadworthiness, arranging for necessary repairs, and maintaining cleanliness. The role contributes to the smooth execution of IOM's field operations by providing reliable transportation for personnel and goods, adhering strictly to official use policies. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and spare parts inventory, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and contributing to logistical efficiency and security.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include operating assigned IOM vehicles safely and efficiently. The Driver will manage the day-to-day maintenance of vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy through regular checks of critical components like tires, brakes, and engine oil. This includes arranging for minor repairs and keeping vehicles clean. The Driver must ensure vehicles undergo scheduled servicing and maintain an inventory of spare parts, conducting monthly checks. They are responsible for identifying the safest and most direct routes and ensuring vehicles are used exclusively for authorized purposes. Accurate record-keeping, including daily log sheets and monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption, is essential. The role also involves maintaining confidentiality, assessing and mitigating security risks related to transportation, meeting and assisting officials at airports, and handling the collection and delivery of mail, documents, and other items.
Work Experience
Candidates should possess knowledge of driving rules and regulations, along with experience driving various makes and models of vehicles. Proficiency in performing minor vehicle repairs and familiarity with operating radio, email, and telephone systems are also required.
Skills
Proficiency in English and French (oral and written). Knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Experience in vehicle maintenance and minor repairs. Familiarity with administrative procedures related to transport and logistics. Understanding of safety, security, and driving regulations.
