Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide specialized architectural technical advice and support for the design and adaptation of infrastructure intended for migrants and host populations in Ecuador. The role will contribute to improving public, private, and NGO service spaces to reduce physical, sensory, and cognitive barriers. The objective is to ensure accessible, dignified environments and promote equitable access to rights and services, particularly in health and comprehensive care. The consultancy will focus on enhancing infrastructure for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals, aligning with IOM's mandate for orderly and humane migration.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide expert architectural advice for diagnosing, designing, and improving infrastructure for migrants, host communities, and vulnerable populations, focusing on accessibility, inclusion, and safety. Key tasks include conducting technical evaluations of existing facilities, developing comprehensive architectural and technical proposals for adaptations, and producing detailed technical documentation and visualizations. The role involves analyzing intervention feasibility, leading technical socialization with communities using participatory methods, and supporting community processes. Additionally, the consultant will prepare budgets, project timelines, and support procurement documentation, coordinate with local authorities, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver training sessions on infrastructure use and hygiene.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of professional experience is required, with at least 2 years focused on designing and implementing community architecture or social infrastructure projects in Ecuador. Experience working with vulnerable populations, including migrants, women, or at-risk youth, is essential. Proven experience with participatory design methodologies for diverse communities and practical knowledge of municipal public procurement processes and construction permits in Ecuador are necessary. Advanced proficiency in architectural design software is also required.
