Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this Driver role is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of IOM vehicles. The driver is responsible for maintaining assigned vehicles, ensuring their roadworthiness, and managing daily maintenance, including checks on tires, brakes, and engine oil. They will arrange for minor repairs and keep vehicles clean, ensuring regular servicing. The role involves finding the safest and most direct routes, strictly adhering to the authorized use of IOM vehicles for official business. Accurate record-keeping of vehicle logs, mileage, and fuel consumption is essential. The driver will also assist in transporting personnel and materials, and potentially support with basic clerical duties, contributing to the smooth logistical operations of the country office.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include driving assigned IOM vehicles and managing their day-to-day maintenance to ensure roadworthiness, including regular checks of tires, brakes, and engine oil. The driver will arrange for minor repairs, keep vehicles clean, and ensure they undergo scheduled servicing. Maintaining accurate records of spare parts and conducting monthly inventory are also required. The role involves identifying the most direct and safe routes for travel and ensuring vehicles are used exclusively for authorized business. Preparing daily log sheets and monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption is crucial. The driver must maintain confidentiality, be discreet in discussions, and take actions to mitigate security threats related to the vehicle and its routes. Responsibilities also include meeting officials at airports, assisting with immigration and customs, and collecting/delivering mail, documents, and other items. Occasional assistance with simple clerical duties may be requested.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of driving experience in a similar assignment, with knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Experience driving various vehicle makes and models, along with skills in minor vehicle repairs, is necessary. Familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications is beneficial. The role also values good communication and teamwork skills, personal integrity, the ability to work harmoniously with diverse colleagues, and a good understanding of South Sudan.
