Job Purpose
The Driver role operates under the supervision of the Head of Supply Chain and Head of Drivers. This position is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods within South Sudan. The driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of assigned vehicles, ensuring their roadworthiness and adherence to all driving regulations. This role directly contributes to IOM's operational effectiveness by facilitating movement, supporting logistical operations, and ensuring the timely delivery of essential items and communications, thereby supporting the organization's mandate to assist migrants and displaced persons.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include driving assigned IOM vehicles safely and efficiently, managing daily vehicle maintenance to ensure roadworthiness, and arranging for minor repairs and regular servicing. The driver will maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, mileage, and fuel consumption, preparing monthly reports. They are responsible for finding the safest and most direct routes and ensuring vehicles are used solely for authorized purposes. Additionally, the role involves collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other items, assisting with airport pick-ups and customs formalities, and maintaining confidentiality regarding IOM operations. The driver may also assist with basic clerical duties and must be vigilant in mitigating potential security threats.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of driving experience in a similar role, with knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Experience with various vehicle makes and models, basic vehicle repair skills, and familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications are necessary. Understanding of South Sudan and the ability to work independently under pressure are also important.
