Movement Operations is a fundamental pillar of IOM's work, responsible for the organized movement of persons needing international migration assistance. This role operates within a Country Office, coordinated by Headquarters, and manages all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees.
Job Purpose
The Movement Operations Associate plays a crucial role in facilitating the organized movement of individuals requiring international migration assistance. This position is integral to IOM's mandate, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant travel of migrants and refugees. The Associate supports the planning, coordination, and execution of all movement operations, adhering to framework agreements with governments and partners. By managing travel logistics, documentation, and beneficiary support, the role directly contributes to IOM's mission of saving lives, protecting people on the move, and facilitating pathways for regular migration, thereby strengthening the organization's overall support to vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule travel, including booking flights and distributing notifications, in compliance with IOM's Handbook of Tariffs and Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain accurate movement data and prepare travel loan paperwork, ensuring data integrity and accountability. Identify and assign escorts for vulnerable individuals and process necessary exit permissions and travel documents. Conduct identity and document verification, and provide pre-departure counseling on travel procedures and special needs. Monitor and report on work progress, immediately informing supervisors of any issues. Uphold RMM Protection Mainstreaming Minimum Standards and IOM Standards of Conduct, ensuring confidentiality and reporting any non-compliance. Undertake duty travel as required for meetings and training.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations, transportation, or management is strongly preferred. Experience with IOM's institutional movement operations systems and resettlement programs is beneficial. Experience communicating with beneficiaries and guiding junior staff is also desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and organizational abilities. Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work under pressure. Team leadership skills.
