Project Assistant- Camp Monitoring & Coordination (wash)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, is implementing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects. This role is field-based within the camps, reporting to the Programme Manager WASH and National Programme Officer WASH. The position involves extensive travel to project sites to oversee and support the implementation of WASH services through partners.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant for Camp Monitoring & Coordination (WASH) is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of field-level WASH services by IOM's Implementing and Operational Partners in Cox's Bazar. This role focuses on strengthening the technical capacity of partner field staff and ensuring activities align with IOM policies and procedures. The position requires regular field visits to project sites for monitoring, quality assurance, and providing feedback to partners. The incumbent will also contribute to needs assessments, coordination meetings, and reporting, playing a crucial role in achieving the WASH project objectives and ensuring community participation and ownership.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will contribute to achieving WASH project objectives by coordinating with the National Programme Officer, Site Management, implementing partners, and government counterparts. Responsibilities include supporting partners in developing and executing effective work plans according to IOM policies and procedures, and assisting in planning WASH activities. The role involves promoting community participation and ownership through engagement and monitoring, and conducting regular field visits to monitor work quality, provide feedback to partners and vendors, and submit progress updates. The assistant will prepare progress reports using Kobo tools, participate in WASH needs assessments and coordination meetings, and maintain collaboration with local administration and stakeholders. Ensuring partners maintain technical records as per guidelines and implementing the WASH project monitoring and evaluation plan are also key duties. The role may involve other assigned tasks by supervisors.
Work Experience
Experience is required in managing medium to large-scale construction and community-based projects, including working with local communities and entities. Experience in construction, borewell drilling, and WASH activity supervision/monitoring is essential. Experience with international humanitarian organizations in a multicultural setting is advantageous. Strong coordination, monitoring, evaluation, analytical, project development, liaison, and reporting skills are necessary, along with excellent communication in English and Bengali.
