The Senior Finance Associate role in IOM Slovakia, based in Bratislava, operates under the Chief of Mission and the Resources Management Officer, supporting financial resource management and budgeting.
Job Purpose
The Senior Finance Associate is responsible for supporting the effective management of financial resources and budgeting within IOM Slovakia. This role involves providing procedural guidance, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with IOM's financial rules and regulations. The position contributes to the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the mission by monitoring expenditures, managing financial data, and offering specialized advice to project managers and leadership. The role also ensures accurate financial record-keeping and supports informed decision-making through regular and ad-hoc financial information.
Responsibilities
Key duties include providing procedural guidance and supervision to finance staff, preparing various financial and budget reports, and managing financial resources through monitoring and control of assets and funds in line with IOM regulations. The role involves offering specialized advice on financial and administrative matters to project managers and mission leadership. Responsibilities also encompass verifying travel expense claims and vendor claims for compliance, monitoring adherence to financial policies, and consolidating data for financial statements. Additionally, the position assists in monitoring bank reconciliations, ensuring proper authorization for disbursements, responding to audit queries, and maintaining vendor accounts.
Work Experience
Required experience includes proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and prior experience in finance and budgeting. Experience with SAP is a distinct advantage. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is also beneficial.
Skills
Strong analytical skills are essential. In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas, UN and bilateral donor programming, financial rules and regulations, and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) are required.
