Job Purpose
This Finance Assistant role supports the organization's mission by ensuring accurate and efficient financial operations. The incumbent will assist the Finance Officer in managing financial data, processing payments, and preparing financial reports. This position is crucial for maintaining financial integrity, supporting program implementation, and ensuring compliance with IOM's financial policies and procedures. The role contributes to the overall effectiveness of the mission by providing essential financial support services to staff and ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions.
Responsibilities
Key duties include extracting and inputting financial data into accounting systems, responding to financial queries, and assisting with payroll transfers through validity checks. The role involves reviewing payment requests for proper authorization and supporting documentation, verifying vendor requests for accuracy against IOM policies, and performing claim verifications. Responsibilities also extend to preparing receipt and journal vouchers, assisting in the preparation of various financial reports, and providing support for staff services like travel and expense claims. Additionally, the Finance Assistant will ensure proper filing of accounting documents and conduct a primary review of implementing partners' financial reports.
Work Experience
Required experience includes proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Previous experience with Oracle Fusion is a significant advantage. Experience working with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental, or governmental institutions in a multicultural setting is also beneficial.
Skills
Attention to detail, methodical organization of paperwork, discretion, client-orientation, patience, and a willingness to learn are essential skills for this role.
