Organizational Context
The Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) is a small grants program operating in northern Ghana, Benin, and Togo. It aims to strengthen local state presence in strategic areas vulnerable to violent extremism from the Sahel. Funded by Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK, the program is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with government partners and communities.
Job Purpose
The Driver will support the Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) program, implemented by IOM in Benin. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of program activities by providing safe and reliable transportation for staff and goods. The driver will contribute to the program's objective of strengthening local state presence and stability in areas at risk from violent extremism. By maintaining program vehicles and ensuring timely and secure transport, the driver directly supports the program's engagement with government partners and local communities, facilitating essential logistical operations.
Responsibilities
The Driver, under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer in Kandi, Benin, is responsible for the safe operation and daily maintenance of assigned IOM vehicles. This includes conducting daily checks of vehicle components, organizing minor repairs, and ensuring vehicles are kept clean and serviced according to schedule. The driver will maintain records of spare parts, conduct monthly inventory, and prepare monthly reports on mileage and fuel consumption. Responsibilities also include identifying safe and efficient routes, ensuring vehicles are used for official purposes only, and maintaining confidentiality. The driver will assist with airport pickups, mail and document distribution, and potentially simple administrative tasks. Adherence to all security regulations and protocols is paramount.
Work Experience
Experience in driving various vehicle types and models is required. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, basic vehicle repair skills, and familiarity with radio, email, and telephone applications are necessary. Experience in a similar role, particularly within an international organization, is desirable.
