Senior Field Security Associate
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. The Office of Staff Security (OSS) manages security policy and operational support for IOM programs, aiming to keep risks at acceptable levels. This Senior Field Security Associate role supports the Chief of Mission in Qatar, with technical oversight from the Regional Security Officer.
Job Purpose
The Senior Field Security Associate provides specialized support to enable IOM's activities in Qatar and assists the Chief of Mission (COM) in all aspects of security risk management. This role is crucial for establishing and maintaining an appropriate level of security awareness within IOM Qatar. By ensuring effective security policies and procedures are in place and communicated, the position contributes directly to the safety and security of IOM personnel, assets, and operations, thereby facilitating the successful delivery of IOM's mandate in the region.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with UNDSS, host government agencies, and local security authorities to gather relevant security information for Qatar. The role involves assisting the Chief of Mission in collecting, verifying, and communicating security situation updates. This includes supporting the development and implementation of country-specific security plans, contingency plans, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as well as contributing to the Business Continuity Plan (BCP). The Associate will also support Security Risk Management (SRM) processes, conduct security evaluations, and advise on Residential Security Measures (RSM). Furthermore, the role involves managing the Country Office Warden system, ensuring communication systems are operational, and disseminating safety and security information. Incident reporting, security awareness training, and maintaining security files and databases are also key duties. The position also entails verifying access control procedures and assisting in investigations.
Work Experience
Relevant professional experience in humanitarian, public, private, or corporate sectors is desirable. Experience in security programs, risk assessments, analysis, operational security risk management, investigations, or physical security is also desirable. Experience with radio communications and successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course are considered advantageous.
Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment with a diverse professional background. Capability to manage a heavy workload efficiently with minimal supervision and strong teamwork skills. Ability to collaborate with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders is an advantage.
