Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with partners to save lives, protect people on the move, address displacement, and facilitate migration pathways. IOM fosters an inclusive and supportive workplace to maximize the potential of migration and enhance support for migrants.
Job Purpose
This consultancy focuses on supporting the implementation of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Flow Monitoring Surveys in Italy. The primary objective is to provide humanitarian organizations and national authorities with crucial data regarding the numbers, routes, and motivations of migrants heading towards Europe. By collecting reliable information on migrant flows, the role contributes to a better understanding of current migration trends and supports informed decision-making by stakeholders. The consultants will operate under the supervision of IOM leadership in Italy and Malta, coordinating with regional DTM project coordinators and project development officers.
Responsibilities
Consultants will be responsible for regularly updating information on flow monitoring points (FMPs) and collecting GPS data when needed. They will liaise with IOM staff and stakeholders to coordinate data collection activities and compile reports on migrants exiting reception systems, paying attention to informal settlements and transit points. A key duty involves conducting approximately 40 Flow Monitoring Surveys weekly using the Kobo application, targeting migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees according to specified criteria. Consultants must adhere to DTM guidelines, ensuring interviews are conducted with dignity and respect for protection principles, especially for vulnerable individuals. Weekly and monthly reports on activities, encountered issues, and recommendations are required, along with a final report. A key performance indicator is uploading at least 450 interviews to the database.
Work Experience
Required experience includes working with vulnerable groups and migrants, conducting personal interviews, and proficiency in MS Office. Experience writing reports in Italian and English is an asset. Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, or EU agencies is also considered an asset. A valid EU work permit (for non-EU candidates) and a driving license are mandatory.
