Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the successful implementation of the 'Helios+' project in Central Macedonia, Greece. The primary purpose is to provide essential interpretation and translation services to facilitate the integration of beneficiaries of international and temporary protection into Greek society. By bridging language barriers, the interpreter will support activities aimed at employability, language acquisition, vocational training, and social inclusion. The position operates under the direct supervision of the Project Assistant (Operations) and contributes to fostering a supportive environment for migrants and refugees, ensuring effective communication and access to services.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include establishing initial contact with beneficiaries, building trust, and providing interpretation and cultural mediation. The role involves responding to helpline calls, identifying emerging issues, and reporting them to the Project Assistant. Maintaining positive relationships with beneficiaries and stakeholders is essential for effective project implementation. The interpreter will also translate documents, assist in mediation activities objectively, and provide general support to project staff during activities in various locations. Identifying barriers to service access for beneficiaries is another important duty.
Work Experience
Previous experience in a similar interpreter or translation role is required. Experience working within a multicultural environment is preferred. This experience should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and mediate in diverse settings.
Skills
Proficiency in Arabic (written and oral) is mandatory. Fluency in English or Greek (written and oral) is also required. Computer literacy in standard software applications is necessary. Strong work ethics, commitment to humanitarian principles, and the ability to build rapport with beneficiaries are essential.
