Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been active in Papua New Guinea (PNG) since 2001, focusing on complex emergencies, humanitarian relief, and enhancing government capacity in migration management. Operating from its Port Moresby Country Office and 12 field offices, IOM's programs cover disaster risk reduction, emergency response, peacebuilding, labor mobility, climate change, anti-trafficking, border governance, legal identity, protection, assisted voluntary return, reintegration, and health. This role provides essential transport and logistical support to IOM's programs in Port Moresby.
Job Purpose
The Driver will provide essential day-to-day transport and logistical/administrative support for the implementation of IOM's programs in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of IOM staff, beneficiaries, and essential supplies. The Driver will be responsible for operating IOM vehicles in compliance with security and transportation procedures, guaranteeing timely and secure arrivals at destinations. By maintaining vehicles, managing logs, and ensuring cost-effective operations, the Driver directly contributes to the successful execution of IOM's humanitarian and migration management initiatives in the country. This position supports the Supply Chain Officer in facilitating program activities and maintaining operational continuity.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for operating IOM office vehicles safely and punctually, adhering to security and transportation protocols. This includes transporting authorized personnel and beneficiaries, as well as delivering and collecting supplies, mail, and documents. The role involves ensuring cost-efficiency through proper vehicle use and accurate record-keeping, including daily mileage and fuel consumption. Regular vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs and scheduled servicing, is essential to ensure operational readiness. The Driver will maintain vehicle maintenance logs and an inventory of spare parts. Additionally, the Driver must handle confidential information discreetly, take precautions against security threats, and follow organizational and local regulations in case of accidents. The position also requires encoding and compiling vehicle mileage data for monitoring and reporting purposes, delivering documents and medicines as needed, and performing other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of driving experience with a good safety record and familiarity with the local area is required. Experience with minor vehicle repairs is necessary. Knowledge or experience with UN security procedures and radio equipment operation is advantageous. Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) is also beneficial.
