Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization since 1951, facilitates humane and orderly migration. In Greece, IOM operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors, providing essential services including accommodation, legal and psychosocial support, medical care, and educational programs. This role supports the implementation of educational activities within these centers.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for supporting the educational programs and enhancing educational activities for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) within IOM's Accommodation Centers in Patra, Greece. The Educator will play a key part in the "Operation of K.F.A.A. Patra" project, funded by the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027". Working under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Shelter Coordinator, the position directly contributes to the well-being and development of vulnerable minors by ensuring access to education and learning opportunities, thereby aiding their integration and future prospects in Greece.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement individual educational plans for each minor, aligning with their overall action plan. Register children for formal schooling and monitor their attendance in cooperation with the Legal Guardian. Design and deliver educational programs, including remedial teaching and at least six hours per week of Greek language instruction. Facilitate the inclusion of minors in vocational training and organize activities for their free time, including educational excursions and recreational programs. Maintain detailed records of daily observations and activities. Identify and map local educational activities, establishing collaborations with private and local actors to enroll children. Assist children with health, hygiene, and personal habits. Cooperate with other community actors for daily activities and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. Ability to work independently. Experience in developing and delivering life skills and educational training programs for children. Computer literacy in standard applications (MS Office). Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Willingness to work varied shifts, including on-call duty. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
