Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related agency established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. The Senior Project Assistant will work under the International Project Officer.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Assistant will provide crucial support to the implementation of the Border Management and Border Integration Project in Belize. This role is instrumental in improving the capacities of government officials and NGOs involved in forest conservation and patrol activities, as outlined in the EU's Multiannual Indicative Plan. The incumbent will work closely with the International Project Officer, other IOM staff regionally, and the IOM Regional Office to ensure effective project execution. The position contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration by strengthening border management and conservation efforts, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders involved in migration processes.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate project implementation, monitoring progress, and analyzing challenges to recommend adjustments. Research, compile, and analyze relevant national and international developments, reports, and legislation. Monitor budget expenditures, manage financial documentation (PR, RFP, Vendor Creations), and maintain a digital filing system for audits. Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, reports, and presentations, ensuring timely submission. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops and awareness-raising activities. Coordinate social media content creation and maintain liaison with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Document good practices and lessons learned, contributing to SOPs and new project designs. Support knowledge management and monitoring/evaluation efforts. Act as the focal point for administrative, procurement, and financial coordination. Assist in organizing training sessions and UN Migration Network Meetings. Provide guidance and training to reporting staff. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs is advantageous. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs, trafficking victims) is beneficial. Prior experience in international humanitarian organizations or multicultural settings is a plus. Experience in environment migration projects, protection of vulnerable groups, report writing, social media management, administrative/logistics responsibilities, and data processing programs is desirable.
