This role, under the Programme Coordinator (Protection), supports the Protection Unit's data analysis, reporting, and activities.
Job Purpose
The Senior Programme Associate (Protection) plays a crucial role in supporting the Protection Unit's operations by ensuring robust data analysis and efficient reporting workflows. This position contributes to the effective monitoring and evaluation of protection activities, providing actionable insights to inform program adjustments and strategic decision-making. By maintaining and optimizing analytical tools and reporting products, the incumbent helps translate complex operational data into clear, understandable information. This supports the unit's ability to highlight key protection trends, address operational needs, and ensure alignment with IOM policies and donor requirements, ultimately contributing to the organization's mission of promoting humane migration.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting and coordinating data analysis and reporting functions, monitoring ongoing activities, and recommending adjustments to meet operational and reporting needs. The role involves researching, compiling, and analyzing information on protection trends and relevant developments. Maintaining and updating analytical tools, trackers, and dashboards, such as Power BI, is essential for translating operational data into actionable insights. The incumbent will also monitor budget and project information, coordinate financial and administrative aspects in line with IOM policies and donor requirements, and support capacity-building workshops on reporting tools and data quality. Additionally, responsibilities include participating in meetings, liaising with stakeholders, coordinating report preparation, identifying best practices, and providing guidance to reporting staff.
Work Experience
Required experience includes supporting reporting workflows and data management for program monitoring and analysis. Proficiency with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric is necessary. Experience with data processing and analytical reporting tools, managing data extraction, consolidation, validation from tools like KOBO, Excel, or SQL, and integrating datasets into reporting tools and dashboards is essential. Experience in preparing and maintaining reporting products like dashboards and analytical summaries is also required.
Skills
Essential skills include strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (Power BI, Excel), and an excellent understanding of data collection methodologies and quality assurance. Knowledge of data protection principles and awareness of IOM Afghanistan operations and protection risks are important. The role requires the ability to support program teams with data and analytical products and to work independently under pressure.
