Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Protection) role is crucial for supporting the implementation of protection project activities within IOM Cambodia. The position, based in Banteay Meanchey, operates under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (Protection) and overall supervision of the Chief of Mission. The incumbent will be responsible for the financial, administrative, and technical aspects of project implementation, ensuring compliance with IOM policies, standards, and donor requirements. This role contributes to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by directly assisting vulnerable migrants and ensuring the effective delivery of protection services.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of protection field activities and coordinating assistance for vulnerable migrants with partners and local authorities. This involves managing referrals, service delivery, and conducting needs assessments, risk evaluations, and follow-ups for migrants and victims of trafficking, applying IOM's vulnerability model. The role requires collecting and recording accurate data using IOM's systems, ensuring data protection and informed consent. Additionally, the Project Assistant will support operational aspects like logistics and procurement, map service providers to update referral pathways, and maintain relationships with community leaders and government counterparts. Drafting progress reports and facilitating information exchange with stakeholders are also essential duties, alongside attending relevant meetings and performing other assigned tasks.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a protection role, is required. Experience in coordinating implementing partner agreements, monitoring activities, and providing direct assistance to beneficiaries is essential. Experience with governmental, non-governmental institutions, or UN agencies is preferred. The role also requires strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently under pressure.
Skills
Excellent communication, analytical, and report writing skills. Ability to work methodically, meet deadlines, and function with minimal supervision. Awareness of issues related to victims of trafficking, migration, and protection. Proficiency in computer and database skills. Fluency in English and Khmer (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of other languages spoken in Cambodia is desirable.
