Project Assistant
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading inter-governmental organization established in 1951, dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. This Project Assistant (Protection) role is based in Preah Vihear, Cambodia, operating under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (Protection).
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant (Protection) will support the implementation of protection project activities, ensuring compliance with IOM policies, standards, and donor requirements. This includes managing the financial, administrative, and technical aspects of project execution. The role involves coordinating assistance to vulnerable migrants, facilitating referrals with various stakeholders, and identifying protection trends. The incumbent will also conduct needs assessments, manage data, support operational logistics, and maintain relationships with community leaders and local authorities. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of protection services and support to migrants in the region, contributing to IOM's mandate of promoting orderly migration and assisting vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Support the Programme Officer (Protection) in planning and implementing protection, legal, MHPSS, and IBG activities, managing financial, administrative, and technical aspects in compliance with IOM and donor requirements. Coordinate assistance to vulnerable migrants with partners, service providers, and local authorities, including referrals for shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support, and reintegration. Identify protection trends, report concerns, and conduct intake interviews, needs assessments, and risk evaluations for vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking. Collect and record accurate data using IOM's standard tools and case management system, ensuring data protection and informed consent. Assist with operational aspects like logistics and procurement. Map service providers to update referral pathways and maintain constructive relationships with community leaders and local government counterparts. Draft progress reports and facilitate information exchange with donors and stakeholders. Organize training sessions on protection topics for staff and partners. Perform other duties as required.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a protection role. Experience in coordinating implementing partner agreements, monitoring activities, and providing capacity building is essential. Experience working with governmental, non-governmental institutions, and UN agencies is preferred. Direct assistance to beneficiaries, organizing events, and maintaining confidentiality are also important.
Skills
Excellent communication and strong analytical/report writing skills. Ability to work methodically, meet deadlines, and function with minimal supervision. Awareness of trafficking, migration, and protection issues. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment. Excellent computer and database skills.
