Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. Movement Operations are a fundamental pillar of IOM's work, responsible for the organized movement of persons needing international migration assistance. This role operates within a Country Office, coordinated by the Resettlement and Movement Management Unit at Headquarters, managing all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for undertaking movement operations activities, a core mandate of IOM. The purpose is to ensure the efficient and organized movement of individuals requiring international migration assistance. This involves coordinating travel arrangements, managing documentation, and providing essential pre-departure information and support. The position contributes to IOM's overarching goal of promoting humane and orderly migration by facilitating safe and effective travel for beneficiaries, adhering strictly to established procedures and agreements with governments and partners. The role supports the smooth execution of resettlement and other migration-related programs.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule travel, including booking flights and distributing notifications, in compliance with travel requirements and IOM's Handbook of Tariffs (HIT) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Organize and complete all bookings in a timely manner, distributing travel information to stakeholders. Compile and analyze descriptive statistics using I-GATOR to capture costs and prepare travel loan paperwork. Create movement data files for accountability. Identify and assign escorts for vulnerable individuals, process exit permissions and travel documents, and conduct identity and document verification. Provide pre-departure counseling on procedures and special needs, identifying and coordinating action for beneficiary vulnerabilities. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of paperwork, upholding RMM Protection Mainstreaming Minimum Standards and IOM Standards of Conduct, reporting any non-compliance.
Work Experience
Prior experience in Movement Operations, transportation-related fields, or management is strongly preferred. Experience in programs with a movement operations component, particularly resettlement programs, is beneficial. Experience guiding junior staff and communicating with beneficiaries is also desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and organizational abilities. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under pressure. Team leadership skills.
