Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Honduras seeks an Operations Assistant for the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program in Tegucigalpa. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and the general oversight of the Chief of Mission and Deputy Chief of Mission/Program Coordinator.
Job Purpose
The Operations Assistant is responsible for executing assigned duties within the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program, specifically supporting migrants eligible for voluntary return. This involves providing information to migrants about the program to ensure informed decision-making, facilitating logistical and administrative preparations for returns, and ensuring compliance with international standards and IOM procedures. The role contributes to the safe and dignified return of migrants by managing travel arrangements, documentation, and reintegration support, thereby facilitating their successful reintegration into their countries of origin.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive information to migrants regarding the IOM Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program to support informed decision-making. Offer logistical support for entrepreneurship initiatives and monitor the reintegration phase. Facilitate the completion of migrant forms in the MiMOSA system, collecting necessary signatures and/or fingerprints. Manage all logistical and administrative preparations for returns, including obtaining travel documents from consulates, coordinating medical reviews, notifying immigration authorities, and arranging reception, accommodation, and related activities. Report return movements to the country of origin and the IOM El Salvador Sub-Regional Office via MiMOSA and email, submitting required documentation and reports according to IOM procedures. Review travel documentation and itineraries for accuracy in fares, names, routes, passenger numbers, dates, and times. Accompany migrants to the airport, assisting with check-in and baggage handling, and receive beneficiaries at airports and border points. Ensure transportation movements adhere to international standards, IOM procedures, and governmental agreements. Maintain detailed records of assisted voluntary returns, receptions, and all assisted beneficiaries using designated formats and systems. Keep a physical archive of case documentation for consultation and to ensure updated records. Monitor the reintegration status of voluntarily returned individuals. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in local projects related to migration, policy development, and training activities. Experience with social or humanitarian work is essential. Proficiency in data processing software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and other Office suite programs is necessary. Experience with international cooperation and humanitarian organizations is advantageous, as is general knowledge of migration and gender issues.
