Protection Assistant
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. This role operates within the framework of accommodation services for individuals and families in vulnerable situations, under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer and in coordination with the AVR Hub team.
Job Purpose
The Protection Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the AVR Hub team by identifying and reporting protection-related needs of beneficiaries. This involves conducting protection screenings, assisting in the development and follow-up of care plans, and providing essential information and guidance to beneficiaries. The role contributes to ensuring the well-being and safety of individuals and families in vulnerable situations, facilitating their daily life within the hub, and preparing them for departure. The assistant also supports coordination with internal teams, service providers, and authorities, ensuring that protection concerns and safeguarding issues are addressed according to IOM's principles and procedures.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include reporting protection needs and vulnerabilities of beneficiaries in line with IOM principles. The role involves conducting protection screenings, documenting findings, and providing basic information and practical guidance to beneficiaries. The Protection Assistant will assist in implementing and following up on individual protection or care plans, coordinating with relevant staff and authorities. Recording and communicating protection needs and vulnerabilities, while adhering to confidentiality and data protection standards, is essential. Facilitating referrals to specialized services and supporting coordination with internal teams and external service providers are also key duties. The role includes organizing information activities, drafting case-related notes, and undertaking other assigned duties to support the AVR Hub team and ensure beneficiary well-being.
Work Experience
Experience working with migrants and/or refugees, or familiarity with a multi-cultural environment, is desirable. Previous experience with vulnerable migrants or in semi-independent living units is an advantage. Additionally, prior experience and/or knowledge of child protection is considered beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-cultural setting. Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including maintaining accurate records and handling sensitive information confidentially. Demonstrated strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Good computer literacy is also required.
