Regional Laboratory Quality Support Officer
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration. This role supports the IOM Migration Health Division, specifically focusing on laboratory quality management systems within the Asia-Pacific region, under the direct supervision of the Regional Laboratory Coordinator.
Job Purpose
This role provides essential technical support for establishing and maintaining laboratory quality management systems (LQMS) for the Migration Health Assessments Programme (HAP) and other IOM Migration Health Division initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region. The incumbent will assist IOM laboratory staff in developing and managing LQMS documentation, implementing quality system essentials, conducting internal and external audits, and overseeing overall LQMS progress, reporting regularly to the Regional Laboratory Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain up-to-date laboratory quality manual templates compliant with ISO 15189:2022. Disseminate these templates globally in coordination with regional and global coordinators. Guide laboratory supervisors and quality officers in the Asia-Pacific region on implementing LQMS documentation. Conduct site visits and external audits for laboratories to support LQMS implementation and prepare for accreditation. Liaise with national accreditation bodies to understand specific requirements. Provide training on LQMS implementation for IOM laboratory staff regionally and globally. Maintain repositories for LQMS documentation and laboratory training events. Support similar initiatives in other regions as needed.
Work Experience
Requires 2-4 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in mycobacteriology. Must have proven experience in producing LQMS documentation and maintaining a document control system. Experience with ISO 15189 implementation and accreditation is desirable, as is training experience and producing English-language documentation.
Skills
Certification in performance of laboratory audits. In-depth knowledge of the ISO 15189:2022 standard.
