The purpose of this role is to provide comprehensive photographic and video coverage for the IOM Turkmenistan's regional project, “Improving Migration Governance and Access to Services for Displaced Afghans in Pakistan and Central Asia.” The consultant will visually document project events and activities in Ashgabat, Ahal, and Mary regions, contributing to the project's communication and visibility efforts. By capturing high-quality visual content, the role supports IOM's mandate to promote humane and orderly migration and highlight the project's impact on Afghan citizens and local communities, particularly focusing on expanding socio-economic opportunities for women and girls. This visual documentation is essential for reporting, outreach, and demonstrating the project's success and IOM's commitment to sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The National Consultant (photographer/videographer) will be responsible for providing photographic and video services throughout the contract period. This includes discussing the assignment with the project management team, capturing high-quality images and videos of project events, and ensuring all footage meets specified technical and artistic standards. The consultant must deliver processed photos (minimum 30 per location) and videos in digital formats (JPEG, RAW) and submit edited, formatted, and archived content on DVD/CD. Ownership of all materials belongs to IOM, and the consultant must destroy all copies after submission. The role requires adherence to a work plan, readiness for travel to specified locations within Turkmenistan, and possession of appropriate legal documents and qualified shooting equipment. IOM will handle necessary filming permits.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in photo and video shooting is required. Candidates must possess a detailed portfolio showcasing diverse work (outdoor, indoor, conferences, portraits, group activities) with published examples. Proven experience in documentary, portrait, and event photography in field conditions is essential. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies is preferred, and prior experience with IOM is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency with professional photography and videography equipment. Strong skills in post-production and image retouching (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom). Ability to work in diverse conditions, including challenging environments. Excellent attention to detail, adherence to technical requirements, and ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of ethical photography principles, especially when working with vulnerable groups. Capacity for travel across Turkmenistan.
