Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Yaounde, Cameroon, seeks a Radiology Technologist. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Senior Radiologic Technologist, with technical support from the IOM Teleradiology Centre and administrative oversight from the Chief of Mission. The position is integral to the IOM Health Assessment Programme.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to process screening X-rays for refugees and migrants as part of the IOM Health Assessment Programme. The Radiology Technologist is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of radiographic images, adhering to international standards and specific technical instructions from resettlement countries. This involves explaining procedures to applicants, preparing equipment, performing examinations with proper radiation safety protocols, and managing digital image processing. The role contributes to the efficient and effective delivery of health assessments, facilitating the resettlement process for vulnerable populations by providing essential diagnostic imaging services.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include taking high-quality chest X-ray images according to IOM and international standards, explaining procedures to applicants, and preparing examination rooms and equipment. The technologist must ensure correct patient identification and data entry, apply proper radiographic techniques, and adhere to radiation protection protocols for patients and staff. Digital image processing, quality review, and reporting urgent findings to radiologists are crucial. The role involves quality assurance for the X-ray unit, maintaining equipment, and optimizing workflow for timely image delivery. Responsibilities also extend to preparing statistical reports, coordinating with teleradiology centers, implementing infection control measures, and suggesting improvements to procedures.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of radiography experience for Bachelor's degree holders, or five years for diploma holders, is required, with a specific focus on Chest X-Ray. Experience with digital machines, radiographic techniques, safety, quality management, and radiology information systems is essential. Prior experience in screening chest X-rays and Health Assessment Programs is highly desirable.

Skills

Essential skills include organizational and communication abilities, along with good computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel. While leadership skills are desirable, the core competencies focus on technical execution and professional conduct within the radiology unit.
