Job Purpose
The Migration Health Physician will play a crucial role in implementing IOM's healthcare activities for migrant beneficiaries and vulnerable populations. This involves conducting comprehensive health screenings, which include reviewing medical histories, monitoring vital signs, performing physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic results. The physician will be responsible for prescribing appropriate treatment regimens, providing essential health information and counseling to migrants and their families, and ensuring accurate documentation of all consultations. This role is vital in optimizing the clinical condition of migrants and facilitating their access to necessary healthcare services.
Responsibilities
As a clinician, the Migration Health Physician will implement healthcare activities and conduct health screenings for migrant beneficiaries and vulnerable populations. This includes reviewing medical histories, monitoring vital signs, performing physical examinations, interpreting diagnostic reports, and prescribing treatment. The physician will also provide counseling, organize follow-up care, and ensure proper patient documentation. Responsibilities extend to facilitating referrals and transportation for critical cases, potentially acting as a medical escort, and providing technical support to national staff and partner NGOs. The role involves maintaining medical equipment, planning and executing field activities, supporting monitoring and evaluation by entering data into health databases, and liaising with local health authorities to strengthen community-level healthcare delivery.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of clinical medical experience post-MD/MBBS is required. Previous experience in health-related programming, particularly with UN agencies or INGOs, is beneficial. Experience in public health, medical emergencies, and project development within an international organization is advantageous.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of migration-related subject areas. High integrity, ethical understanding, respect for diversity, and ability to work with diverse populations. Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine. Excellent organization and communication skills. Strong practical computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
