Job Purpose
This Project Assistant (Assisted Returns) role in Yaounde, Cameroon, supports IOM's Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme (MPRR SSA) and the EU-funded Migration Governance Enhancement project. The purpose is to strengthen the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) unit by providing essential airport assistance to returning migrants, including pre-embarkation support. The role also involves coordinating reception and reintegration services, ensuring alignment with programmatic objectives and organizational priorities. The incumbent will assist in implementing targeted return and reintegration interventions, contributing to the overall mission of protecting vulnerable migrants and fostering their sustainable reintegration in their countries of origin.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant (Assisted Returns) will conduct pre-departure family tracing and assessments, providing necessary information to migrants and sending missions. They will participate in remote counselling sessions to inform migrants about available assistance in Cameroon. The role involves coordinating reception and post-arrival assistance for returning migrants, organizing counselling sessions, and conducting vulnerability screening and eligibility verification. The assistant will support the provision of reintegration assistance, including confirming eligibility, validating reintegration plans, and processing payments. Developing integrated reintegration plans based on needs assessment and referring migrants to specialized services are key duties. The role also includes updating case information in MiMOSA, liaising with partners, and performing other necessary functions.
Work Experience
Required experience includes social work, case management, protection work, or assistance to vulnerable populations. Experience in livelihood project implementation or business support is a strong advantage. Prior work with international humanitarian organizations or in a multicultural setting is also beneficial.
Skills
A strong advantage is a good understanding of social protection and/or migration issues, particularly concerning migrants' rights and protection.
