Organizational Context
IOM Cameroon, as part of the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR SSA) and the EU-funded 'Migration Governance Enhancement' project, focuses on strengthening national capacities for migration management. The role supports the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) unit, contributing to the protection of vulnerable migrants and their sustainable reintegration.
Job Purpose
This role supports IOM Cameroon's AVRR unit, building on past initiatives like the EU-IOM Joint Initiative and the current MPRR SSA programme. The primary purpose is to ensure the effective provision of airport assistance to returning migrants, including pre-embarkation support. It also involves coordinating reception and reintegration services, aligning with programmatic objectives and organizational priorities. The position contributes to strengthening national capacities in managing return, readmission, and reintegration processes, supporting the development of Cameroon's migration governance framework.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant (Assisted Returns) will conduct pre-departure family tracing and assessments, providing necessary information for informed decision-making and return feasibility. They will participate in remote counselling sessions to inform migrants about available assistance and reintegration processes. The role involves coordinating reception and post-arrival assistance, organizing counselling sessions, and conducting vulnerability screenings to verify eligibility for support. Additionally, the assistant will support the provision of reintegration assistance, including plan validation and payment processing, and develop integrated reintegration plans based on assessed needs. Referrals to specialized services and case monitoring will also be undertaken, alongside systematic data updates in MiMOSA and liaison with relevant partners.
Work Experience
Required experience includes social work, case management, protection, or assistance to vulnerable populations. Experience in livelihood project implementation or business support is advantageous. Prior work with international humanitarian organizations or in multi-cultural settings is also a plus.
Skills
Fluency in French and English (oral and written) is required. A good understanding of social protection and/or migration issues, particularly migrants' rights and protection, is a strong advantage.
