Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the UN Migration Agency, dedicated to safe, orderly, and regular migration. IOM supports the reintegration of returning migrants to improve their well-being and empowerment. In Cameroon, IOM has a strong track record in reintegration programming, building on past initiatives and now focusing on a new EU-funded project to enhance migration governance and national policy development.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate (Assisted Returns) will play a crucial role within IOM Cameroon's Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme. This position is integral to the successful implementation of the EU-funded project focused on migration governance and reintegration. The role involves supervising Reintegration Assistants (G4), ensuring the effective coordination of reception and reintegration support for returning migrants, and guaranteeing adherence to organizational standards and procedures. The ultimate aim is to contribute to the sustainable reintegration of migrants, enhancing their well-being and fostering their empowerment, while strengthening national capacities in migration management.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate pre-departure family tracing and assessment activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IOM guidelines. Validate information provided to migrants and assess return feasibility. Oversee Reintegration Assistants in implementing reception and reintegration activities, ensuring adherence to procedures and quality standards. Manage advance booking notifications, validate forecasted budgets for airport assistance, and handle administrative correspondence with government institutions. Organize preparatory meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Supervise counselling sessions, ensuring relevant information is provided and intervening in complex cases. Oversee administrative formalities and logistical assistance for arriving migrants. Validate and consolidate case information in MiMOSA, ensuring data accuracy and compliance. Lead Post Arrival Needs Assessments (PANA) and coordinate appropriate responses. Identify training needs for junior staff and provide coaching. Contribute to the continuous improvement of procedures for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.
Work Experience
Experience in social work, case management, protection, or assistance to vulnerable populations. Proven experience supervising staff and coordinating multi-stakeholder processes. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
Strong understanding of migration and reintegration issues, including migrants’ rights and protection. Proven ability to supervise, coach, and build capacity of junior staff. Excellent organizational, reporting, and communication skills. Knowledge of reception and airport assistance processes is a strong asset.
