Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) supports the safe, orderly, and regular migration of individuals, focusing on the social, psychosocial, and economic reintegration of returning migrants. Building on past initiatives, IOM Cameroon is strengthening national capacities for migration governance, including return, readmission, and reintegration processes, and supporting the development of a national migration policy.
Job Purpose
This role supports IOM's mission in Cameroon by contributing to the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR SSA). The Project Associate (Assisted Returns) will play a key role in supervising Reintegration Assistants (G4) to ensure the effective coordination of reception and reintegration support for returning migrants. The position is crucial for maintaining organizational standards and contributing to the overall success of reintegration interventions, aligning with the project's goal of enhancing migration governance and supporting migrants' well-being and sustainable empowerment in their countries of origin.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate pre-departure family tracing and assessment activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IOM guidelines. Validate information provided to migrants for informed decision-making. Oversee Reintegration Assistants (G4) in implementing reception and reintegration activities, ensuring adherence to procedures and quality standards. Manage Advance Booking Notifications (ABN) and validate forecasted budgets for airport assistance. Organize preparatory meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Supervise counselling sessions, intervening in complex cases. Oversee administrative formalities and logistical assistance for arriving migrants. Validate and consolidate case information in MiMOSA, ensuring data accuracy and compliance. Lead Post Arrival Needs Assessments (PANA) to identify and coordinate responses to immediate migrant needs. Identify training needs for G4 staff and provide coaching. Contribute to the continuous improvement of procedures for reintegration interventions.
Work Experience
Experience in social work, case management, protection, or assistance to vulnerable populations. Proven experience supervising staff and coordinating multi-stakeholder processes. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or government institutions in a multicultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
Strong understanding of migration and reintegration issues, including migrants’ rights and protection. Proven ability to supervise, coach, and build capacity of junior staff. Excellent organizational, reporting, and communication skills. Good understanding of social protection issues is a strong advantage. Proven knowledge of reception and airport assistance processes is a strong asset.
